Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Decoding and tracing both happen in a background worker inside your browser. The file stays on your device.
Which images convert best?
Flat-color artwork such as diagrams, schematics, icons, and charts traces cleanly. Photographs and micrographs contain continuous gradients and produce large files with many small shapes.
Will the text in my figure stay editable?
Tracing converts letters into outlined shapes, so they scale cleanly but are not editable text. Retype important labels in your vector editor, or add them as text in the FigEditor canvas before exporting.
Why is the SVG file larger than my PNG?
Every traced region becomes a path. Choose the Simple preset or start from an image with fewer colors to reduce the file size.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 16 MB are supported. Very large images are traced at up to 1600 pixels on the longest side, and the SVG keeps the original dimensions.
